Prof Micheal van Wyk is a distinguished scholar and holds the following degrees: PhD (Curriculum Studies), Med (Curriculum Studies), Bed Hons (Leadership and Management), BA Economics, Secondary Teachers Diploma (Economics Education), Certificate in Assessment and Financial Management. A full professor in Economics Education, and an NRF-rated researcher, College of Education, University of South Africa (UNISA). He is a qualified professional teacher, esteemed researcher, published 156 articles in highly impacted journals, supervised 42 doctoral and 49 master’s degree students, read 163 conference papers, delivered 19 keynote speeches, published 8 conference proceedings, edited 6 academic books and awarded 12 external grants (NRF and British Council). He is a flipped learning expert in ODeL research. In 2013, the Chancellor Award for Excellence in Research (UNISA) was awarded for his novel educational contributions to Economics Education in teacher education. Furthermore, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (2018) was awarded for his groundbreaking research on the e-portfolio as an alternative assessment approach in teacher education. One of his articles, entitled, Students’ Perceptions of the Flipped Classroom Pedagogy in an Open Distance e-Learning University (2020), was published in Ubiquitous Learning: An International Journal (SCOPUS) and voted as the best scholarly publication by the journal vetting panel. Prof van Wyk received the International Award for Excellence for Research (2020), Common Ground Research Network, University of Chicago, USA. For the second time, I was awarded the UNISA Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research (2023). Serving on international journal editorial boards and vetting panels. The Medal of Honour in Education (2023) was awarded for his contribution to teacher education by the Education Association of South Africa. A former Associate Editor for Heliyon: Education. (Scopus, Quintile 2 journal). Currently, the Editor-in-Chief for the African Journal of Pedagogy and Curriculum ( www.ajopac.com ). His research interests are digital technologies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital game-based learning, flipped pedagogy, prompt literacy, authentic assessment and Economics Education.
