Gernot Maximilian Piepmeyer is the Secretary General of the Namibia National Commission for UNESCO with more than 25 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and science, technology and innovation policy. He began his career as a teacher of Mathematics and Physical Science before joining the National Institute for Educational Development, where he led the transition of Mathematics and Science curricula from the Cambridge system to the National Senior Secondary Certificate. He later served at the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology, where he managed policy and innovation programmes. His current work advances all five UNESCO priority areas with a focus on skills development, innovation and international collaboration.
