Education
Barthromeus N. Shileka, a 30-year-old education innovator from Outapi, Namibia, is the founder of Educational Technology of Namibia (Edutec Namibia). His career represents a unique integration of technical expertise in automotive and mechanical engineering with a strong commitment to digital education and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training).
With more than twelve years of experience in the automotive industry, Barthromeus has specialized in diesel mechanics, automotive mechatronics, and earth-moving equipment. Building on this technical foundation, he transitioned into the education sector, contributing as an instructor, national assessment practitioner, eLearning facilitator, and subject matter expert for the Namibia Training Authority and the Namibian College of Open Learning. His work has emphasized curriculum design, assessment, mentoring, and the integration of digital tools to strengthen learning outcomes.
In 2023, Barthromeus’ dedication to advancing TVET was recognized through a fellowship in Japan, where he studied global best practices in technical education and crafted innovative solutions for Namibia’s skills-development challenges. This international exposure inspired him to expand his vision beyond national borders by creating digital technical simulations, instructional videos, and eLearning resources that bridge the gap between theory and practice. These resources, made available through platforms such as Edutec Global and Edutecna, currently benefit learners across Namibia and are designed to scale across the African continent.
His academic achievements further reflect his dedication to education and professional growth. Barthromeus is pursuing a Master’s degree in Technical and Vocational Education and Training at Kathmandu University in Nepal. In 2024, he completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Open School Operations and Management at the Namibian College of Open Learning. He also obtained a Certificate in Vocational Training Administration and Systems from the Japan International Cooperation Agency in 2023, as well as an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Technology from the Engineering Institute of Technology in Australia during the same year. Prior to these, he earned a Diploma in Technical and Vocational Education and Training from the Namibia University of Science and Technology in 2022, and a National Trade Diploma in Diesel Mechanics together with an N3 qualification in Automotive Engineering from the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology in 2018.
Barthromeus’ ultimate ambition is the development of a comprehensive software application that transforms education for African learners at both basic and higher levels. This platform aims to make learning more practical, engaging, and accessible while equipping young Africans with the skills and confidence required to excel in the digital era. His professional journey reflects an unwavering commitment to innovation, excellence, and empowerment, uniting his background in technical industries with a passion for teaching and a vision for digital transformation in African education.
